The effect that toner ink cartridges have on the environment is a concern to many people as they try to think of ways to reduce the pollution on our planet. Recycling ink toner cartridges has to be the way forward in helping this cause. If we are able to re-use 90 per cent of our cartridges, that means we are using less plastics in the manufacturing process; less new parts are required and less product has to go to landfill. Of course it is up to the ink and toner manufacturers to find ways of getting their customers to return the empty cartridges. This can be done by either providing the end user with some way to return the cartridge either by post or by courier (this raises another environmental concern with regard to the extra fuel required to complete this task). This also would add a cost to the manufacturer that they would feel they have to pass on to the consumer in some form. The other way is to have the end user return the toner and ink cartridges at their own cost in order to facilitate a donation to charity by the manufacturer. It is possible also for the ink toner manufacturers to strike up a deal with a courier company for a favourable rate for collecting large amounts of used ink and toner from a large institution such as a school or college. The empty ink toner cartridges can then be collected at no cost to the user, remain cost effective for the manufacturer and provide the transport company with the goodwill of being seen to help a charity and the environment.
Certainly this last option means there are many winners, most of all the environment.
